In 2017, Prism Defence contacted the Centre for Defence Industry Capability (CDIC) to seek advice from a Defence business adviser. The company worked with the CDIC to formulate a Skills Advisory Report and applied for a Capability Improvement Grant to enhance the capabilities of our Senior Engineer and General Manager and software developers.
The funding allowed Prism Defence to invest in two areas of development for the team; a Professional Management course to assist the company’s Senior Engineer and General Manager, Dr James Forrest to further develop his business management skills and an Agile Software Development courses to teach software developers to apply lean principles to software development. These areas of professional development have had an immediate impact, significantly benefiting the business and senior staff have found it encouraging to see the junior developers progress through supplementing their existing qualifications with additional skills, while Prism Defence’s business grows.
Maintaining the company’s high-end software engineering and systems integration skills will require constant revision and investment but vigilance in maintaining staff skills will be rewarded as the business has the opportunity to penetrate new markets.
