Prism Defence and HMNZS Canterbury Super Seasprite SHOL Trial

Prism Defence has conducted the latest in a series of flight trials to define Ship Helicopter Operating Limits (SHOL) for the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF).
For the trial a Kaman SH-2G(I) Super Seasprite helicopter from 6 Sqn Royal New Zealand Air Force embarked onboard HMNZS CANTERBURY a Protector-class amphibious and military sealift vessel of the Royal New Zealand Navy. HMNZS CANTERBURY (Cdr Matt Wray RNZN) provides the New Zealand Defence force with the ability to transport and deploy personnel, vehicles, and supplies around New Zealand’s 15,000-kilometre coast and overseas.
6 Sqn Royal New Zealand Air Force comprises a mix of Navy and Air Force personnel who operate and maintain a fleet of eight Kaman SH-2G(I) Super Seasprite helicopters. 6 Sqn are based at RNZAF Base Auckland in Whenuapai and is one of the force elements under the command of the Air Component Commander (ACC), Headquarters Joint Forces New Zealand.
The aim of the trial, conducted around the New Zealand coast and off the shores of Fiji, was to develop safe operating limits to support day and night operations for the aircraft. Conducted in a wide range of sea, wind and temperature conditions, the trial enabled a thorough exploration of the aircraft-ship combination that will further enhance the capability of HMNZS Canterbury and its embarked SH-2G(I) Super Seasprite helicopters.
