In September 2017, Prism Defence was awarded the contract to develop a ship airwake database for Australia’s new Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) Hobart class of ships. This database allows Australia’s Defence, Science and Technology Group (DST) to perform advanced helicopter modelling and risk-mitigation activities leading up to the First of Class Flight Trials in 2018.
Prism Defence uses state of the art computational fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques to map out the turbulent aerodynamic environment around the ship in many different relative wind conditions. It is an honour to support Australia’s naval aviation capability through this project which is hopefully the first of many collaborations with DST Group.
